Book Giveaway still going strong throughout this week—and the GREAT GATSBY RETRO VIDEOGAME!!!!

I’m still gathering names for my book or DVD giveaway. I’m actually thinking of giving away TWO prizes---i.e. the winner gets first choice of the book or DVD and then second place gets the other one. Just leave a comment to be entered into the drawing

Thanks to Reading Romances for sponsoring this blog hop.

And hey –I’m sorry about the SNAFU with my CafĂ© novel giveaway. Not sure what happened. To their credit, Amazon has been very responsive for customer service. In fact, I feel so bad about it, ALL OF MY BOOKS ARE GOING TO BE FREE ON SATURDAY, JUNE 30 ON KINDLE.

What was that, old sport?

Yeppers. All my  books are going to be free on June 30 on Kindle.

Because there just aren't enough video games where
you can knock over flappers and Charleston dancers.
Also, I am planning to launch TWO new (well, one new and one re-formatted—sometimes my Kindle formatting gets wonky) books at the end of August. If you want to be sure you know when the FREE promos are, you can follow this blog, or follow me on Twitter at Carraway Bay (hmmm…the name of my publisher is a nice tip of the hat to the Great Gatsby.)

For those of you who remember the video game craze of the 80s, you’ll love this retro- 80s version of the Great Gatsby. It’s the bee’s knees, old sport!

Yikes a glitch in the amazon page

One of my way cool writer friends pointed out that for some reason, amazon is not showing my book, for free today, though I have it scheduled.

My apologies to anyone who has tried to get it and can't. I'm working on the problem, and if you want a copy and didn't get one, leave your email and I will make sure that you get a copy.

Also, forgive me Jack McCoy, but the actors name is Sam Waterston I believe. Yikes, sorry about that, Sam.

And btw, thanks to my writer friend for pointing this out. She writes some great stuff, so head to www.novemberhillpress.com

Giving Away My Favorite Book!

...

WELCOME!
You can get something for free just for showing up.
UPDATE...I have decided to offer another chance to get my books for free. On June 30, ALL my books will be free on kindle. If you don't have a Kindle, no problem, you can download a FREE app from Amazon to read Kindle books on your computer, iPad, Android phone, etc
Tell your friends!
Click here to go to my novel's Amazon page.  (and PS-- I've had his novel reformatted and professionally re-edited, though sometimes things still get wonky. Contact me if you have any problems with it.)

But now on to the giveaway....

You may have been forced to read it in 10th grade, and if you have, I BEG you to give it another chance. It is a story of incredible love--a man who sacrificed everything for someone he loved--even his own identity. It is about a man who gained the world, and yet lost his own soul... it's a story that, well, a remake of will be in theaters this December:
Of course, with all due respect to Mr. DiCaprio, I do have a soft spot for the original Robert Redford movie.  Robert Redford---you just can't slap the handsome off that man:

Okay, so here's the deal: This week I'm going to be blogging about all things Gatsby--little known facts, video games, cartoons, etc.  I will be giving away your choice of either 1) Paperback copy of The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald OR 2) the DVD of the 1974 movie starring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow (and believe it or not, a VERY young Sam Watterson as Nick Carraway. Oh Jack McCoy, how we've missed you!)
While I obviously prefer the book to the movie, you could do worse than watching Robert Redford for 2 hours.

All you have to do is leave a comment. I will put all names in a hat and draw a name out. Please note that I will need your snail mail address to send you the book / DVD. I do NOT sell addresses, spam, etc. because, well, that's just not cool.

And "Leaving the Comfort Cafe" is FREE June 24 and 25---just my little thank-you for stopping by, old sport! (and there are FREE reads on my website at www.dawndeannawilson.com)
Thank you to reading-romances.com for sponsoring the event.

Giving Away a Copy of My Favorite Romance Book--plus, my favorite movie kisses

And no, it's not my book...my gosh, even I'm not THAT pretentious. But, as an added bonus, my romance novel, "Leaving the Comfort Cafe" will be FREE on June 24-25 as a part of a blog hop. I think the icon below is linked back to the blog hop, so check out all the authors on those days....

Special thanks to "Reading Romances" for hosting the blog hop. As for which book is my favorite? I'm not giving it away. But suffice it to say it is a beautiful/ tragic love story.

In the meantime, here are some clips of my favorite on-screen movie kisses:

This one should come as no surprise to anybody:

I was always a sucker for Jimmy Stewart...

Could there be a bad kiss scene with Johnny Depp? Methinks not.

And this one? Absolutely.

And of course, this one: And finally, this one, mainly for the wonderful lines leading up to it. And I love that they didn't try to make this rom com too, well, rom com---they did concentrate on happy couples being, well  , happily incompatible.

RIP Ray Bradbury...a tribute from a writer

It seemed appropriate to give a tip of the hat to Ray Bradbury. Although I do not write science fiction, Mr. Bradbury had a profound influence on me as a writer, but to really understand or explain that, you have to follow me back to fourth grade (or maybe it was sixth...the years blur together as you get older. It was a simpler time....I told myself I'd slap myself if I ever wrote a line like that, but it was true. summer in my small town didn't offer a lot of excitement, and with a mother who was a teacher, limits were put on TV and other indoor activities like video games. Thankfully, I had two neighbors my age who embraced the "hip to be square" philosophy with me, and summer meant that there were days we could just hang out at our small town library....let me reiterate, this was the time when even the most conservative parents would have no problem leaving some sixth graders at the library for a couple of hours, or even a good chunk of the day. we were generally well-behaved (there would be hell to pay if we weren't)and it was there that I enjoyed books such as the Taran Wanderer series, some horse book called Tiger Roan (which grossed me out because the horse lost an eyeball or some such) and then, seeing a totally funky cover, I picked up a copy of Bradbury's "Illustrated Man." wow. I'm not saying Bradbury is the best writer I've ever read, or that he was some sci-fi Shakespeare, but his fiction had the ability to grasp my young ( and let's face it, somewhat sheltered) mind and shake it. the way the stories wove together, the Twilight Zone type feel of them, one story , "The Man" seemed to allude to astronauts just missing Jesus on a planet they visited. From then on, I reveled in every Bradbury book and short story ( a woman gives birth to a small, blue triangle? what the....?) And Fahrenheit 451 remains one of my eerily prophetic favorites. Thanks Mr. Bradbury.Link to his bio: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Bradbury
